Salem, IN (August 12, 2020) – The Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS will have their 150 lap 2020 Triple Crown Championship event this Saturday night at Anderson Speedway, located in Anderson, Indian. With several events postponed and rescheduled because of the COVID-19 pandemic and a rainout, Saturday will be the only appearance for the 2020 Triple Crown at Anderson Speedway in 2020.
The Triple Crown events featured three 150 green lap, $3000 minimum to win events in 2020. The first Triple Crown event was at the Indianapolis Speedrome on July 11th and was won by Andrew Teepe. The second Triple Crown Series Championship event was at Shadybowl Speedway on July 25th and was won by Brett Hudson.
The Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks had a very popular Triple Crown Series from 2014 through 2016 with the events at Shadybowl Speedway, Kentucky Motor Speedway and Anderson Speedway. Jason Atkinson won the Triple Crown Series Championship in 2014 and 2015 with Brett Hudson winning the 2016 Championship. The series was expanded to the Four Crown Series for 2017 with Chuck Barnes Jr. winning the title. The series was expanded to a Five Crown Series in 2018, but two events were cancelled because of weather, Jacob McElfresh was the 2018 Champion. The Four Crown Series returned in 2019 with Atkinson claiming the crown again.
In addition to the $3000 minimum to win for each event, there will be a Points Champion from the three events who will receive a $1000 bonus. Second in points will receive a $600 bonus, third place a $400 bonus, then there will be two $250 bonuses from a random draw from the cars that attended all four events. Each of the Triple Crown Series events are 150 laps and will be 4 tire races, all four will have a break at lap 75 to add fuel and make adjustments. Each Triple Crown event winner and the overall Champion will receive a specially designed buckle from Crumrine Buckle Manufacturing.
Saturday will be the fifth event of the 2020 season and the fourth points event for the Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks, who opened their 2020 season at Lebanon I-44 Speedway on May 30th with a special non-points event that was won by 2017 series Champion Colby Lane. Lane then picked up the series’ first points event win of 2020 at Mt. Lawn Speedway on June 14th. Teepe got the Triple Crown win Indianapolis Speedrome and Hudson the Triple Crown win at Shadybowl.
Former series Champion Atkinson is the currently leader in series Championship points to date. Ryan Amonett is in second, he is 11 points behind Atkinson. Teepe is in third place, only three points behind Amonett. Alan Williams Jr. is in fourth place, he is two points behind Teepe. Series leading rookie Brandon Roberts is in fifth place, he is 21 points behind Amonett. Teepe is also locked into the series Chase for the Championship with his win if he competes in 70% of the series remaining races.
Atkinson also leads the Triple Crown series points after two events. Amonett is in second, he is only one point behind Atkinson. Williams Jr. is in third place, he is nine points behind Amonett. Teepe is in fourth place, he is 11 points behind Williams Jr. Roberts is in fifth place, he is four points behind Teepe. All the top five in Triple Crown points are entered for Saturday night’s Triple Crown Championship event at Anderson Speedway, and all five still have a shot at the Championship.
Defending event winner Hudson tops a very talented list of entries for Saturday’s AERCO Heating and Cooling 150 Presented by CB Fabricating. Multi time Anderson Street Stock Champion and former event winner Josh Poore is entered. Other top series drivers entered includes Chuck Barnes Jr., former series Champions Jake McElfresh, James Kirby III, and Phil Jenkins. Also entered are Jake Owens, Derrick Layne, Dallas Frueh, Troy Phillips, Alex Ware, Mark Eads Jr., Royce Harmon, Dale Harper, and Dawson Phillips, who is entered to ake his series debut.
There is an open practice on Friday, pits open at 4pm with practice from 5pm to 8pm. Pits open on Saturday at 1pm. Practice begins at 3:30pm, with qualifying beginning at 6pm. Racing starts at 7:30 pm with the Tom Wood Honda 125 Presented by AERCO Heating & Cooling and CB Fabricating for the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS. The Anderson FWD Figure 8’s will be up next with a 20-lap feature. The AERCO Heating and Cooling 150 Presented by CB Fabricating Triple Crown Championship event for the Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks will cap off the huge night of racing action at Anderson Speedway.
