By Stan Kalwasinski
South Bend, Ind.—Austin Woodcox of LaPorte was the winner of the street stock division 40-lap Doughboy Memorial, which honored former driver Larry Saunders, Saturday night at the South Bend Motor Speedway.
Picking up $1,071 for his winning efforts, Woodcox stayed ahead of Corey Pressler to score the victory. Seven yellow flags slowed the action, which saw a field of 14 start the evening’s headliner with Woodcox getting by racer leader Dylan Stremme after a green flag restart with only 13 laps completed.
Woodcox, the night’s fastest qualifier among a field of 36, took the checkered flag in front of Pressler, who was followed by Stremme, Ronnie Maynard Jr., Eric Kiser and rookie speedster Terence Hesters.
Michigan’s Nick Pressler claimed top honors in the (late model) sportsman 30 lapper. Pressler defeated division points leader Rodney Smith, Matt Mauer, AJ Lubelski, Aaron Zimmerman and Tim Thurston in the race which saw 15 cars take the green flag.
Illinois racer Steve Rubeck took the win in the 20-lap main event for the Northern Outlaw Vintage Series. Rubeck and his 1980 Camaro bested fastest qualifier Woody Pool, South Bend’s Steve Teske, Pat Heaney and Pat Echlin.
The Front Wheel Drive (FWD) division saw Derek Davis win the 20-lap feature race over Corey Woods and Ronnie Holaway, who started the night on top of the division’s standings. Joe Moeglin won the 20-lap Hornets (four-cylinder) class feature ahead of Ryan Anglemyer and Richele Wolkens. Jerime Damron took home top honors in the 20-lap mini-stock main event.
Zak Johnston won the 20-lap street stock “B” main with Eddie Ligue winning the division’s “C” main. Jason Horton was the winner of the FWD 12-lap “B” main and Jeremiah Campbell won the Hornets division “B” feature.
