Slinger Nationals on tap for July 18
Slinger, Wis.—One of the biggest mid-summer Midwest short track stock car events, the 38th annual SUPERSEAL Slinger Nationals presented by Miller Lite is slated for Tuesday evening, July 18, at the Slinger Speedway.
The high-banked quarter-mile paved oval will again see some of the country’s best super late model talent do battle in the 200-lap event. Three of the country’s top late model standouts, Wisconsin’s Ty Majeski, Georgia’s Bubba Pollard and Florida’s Steve Dorer are expected to be on hand for the battle. Majeski, the 22-year-old, three-time ARCA Midwest Tour titlist, recently scored his first career late model feature win at the Slinger speed plant.
Four-time Slinger Nationals winner Rich Bickle Jr., along with Dalton Zehr, Casey Johnson, Dan Frederickson and young Derek Kraus, are expected to see action. Racing for the track’s late model class will also be on tap.
A quick look at the history of the event finds NASCAR star and Wisconsin native Matt Kenseth on top of the all-time winners honor roll with eight victories to his credit. Kenseth won last year’s race ahead of NASCAR newcomer, Erik Jones. Some legendary names in racing like Dick Trickle, Joe Shear, Mark Martin and Larry Detjens have scored Slinger Nationals victories. Detjens, who died from injuries suffered in a racing crash at another Wisconsin speedway in 1981, won the first Slinger Nationals contest in 1980.
Preliminary racing is set for Monday evening with a rain date set for Wednesday. For more information, go to the speedway’s website at www.slingersuperspeedway.com.
