Van Gisbergen – Xfinity Race Winner at Chicago

By Stan Kalwasinski

Chicago, Ill., July 6—Shane van Gisbergen seems to have NASCAR’s Chicago street circuit figured out as he won Saturday’s “The Loop 110” NASCAR Xfinity Series race.   The New Zealand racer, who won last year’s inaugural NASCAR Cup Series contest in downtown Chicago, returned and captured the 50-lap contest on the 2.2-mile street course.   Fast timer earlier in the day, Van Gisbergen drove his WeatherTech Chevrolet No. 97 to the victory ahead of Ty Gibbs, Kyle Larson, Parker Kligerman and Jesse Love.

Van Gisbergen grabbed the lead from Love with three laps to go and claimed his third career Xfinity victory.  There were nine lead changes among five drivers with van Gisbergen and Larson seemingly swapping the lead corner-after-corner most of the race, which was slowed by seven caution flags for 16 laps.
