Haseleu and Neville Pick Up Wins in
Super Late Twin 50s; Schmidt, Ace, McNamara, Robinson,
and Duncanson Also Victorious
By: John Wells
Oregon, WI (August 1, 2008) - Nathan Haseleu and Nick
Neville each picked up a win in the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late
Model Twin 50s tonight at Madison International Speedway
in front of a large crowd on Laborers Union Local 464 Night.
Powered by a first and third place finish, Haseleu won the overall
title and collected an additional $500 to make his night worth
$2000. Bret Schmidt (Bryden Motors Area Sportsman), Chester
Ace (Roto Rooter Bandits), Max McNamara (Pellitteri Waste Systems
Legends), Jimmy Robinson (Hobby Stocks), and Caylie Duncanson
(Bandoleros) also took home checkered flags. John Beinlich won
the Allison Legacy exhibition race.
Several area high school students also received scholarships
to Ohio Technical College as part of the ASA Educational Series
program at MIS this season. Crew members Nicholas Jungenberg,
Michael Hanson, Benjamin June, Courtney Hanke, and driver Stephen
Scheel all won $25,000 scholarships. Matthew Noyce, Tom Landwehr,
Vern Fagerberg Jr., and Pat Richgels all took home $12,000 scholarships.
Addison Graves, Zach Reining, and Shaun Scheel won $6,000 scholarships.
Founder Peter Raskovic was honored with a plaque during the
track side presentation that took place during intermission.
The program will be back at MIS in 2009.
Haseleu Tops Morrissey in Twin 50 Opener
In a race that saw six different leaders, Nathan Haseleu held
off Andrew Morrissey to win the first Twin 50 Weaver Auto Parts
Super Late Model event.
Kyle Kinder and Shane Morrissey started in the front row of
the eighteen car field with Kinder holding a slight advantage
after the first lap before giving up the lead to Morrissey.
Morrissey would look strong holding off the field until the
races first caution came out for a spin on lap 19. His
lead would continue for the next four laps until Gary LaMonte
got by on the inside of Morrissey coming out of turn four to
take the lead.
LaMontes lead would be short-lived as past track champion
Dave Feiler motored by him on lap 26 to take the lead. Working
his way through the field, Andrew Morrissey was up for the challenge
as he took over the lead from Feiler on lap 32 closely followed
by Haseleu.
Haseleu would seize the opportunity to take the lead on lap
37 as he dropped to the inside of Morrissey coming out of turn
three. From there it would be all Haseleu who held off Morrissey
for the win. Rounding out the top five would be Feiler, Dan
Lensing, and Steve Rubeck.

Impressive Debut for Nick Neville
Nick Neville made the most of his Weaver Auto Parts Super
Late Model debut by winning the second fifty lap feature.
The sixteen car field was led to the green flag by Nick Hammer
and Brandon Hill with Hill taking the early lead. The caution
flag came out two times early for a spin on lap 5 and for a car
in the wall on lap 8. Hill would continue to lead after each
restart, but his time running out front would soon be gone.
With a display of great speed, Neville would power by Hill
on lap 11 and begin his pursuit for his first-ever feature win
at MIS.
Neville would quickly build up a multi-car length margin over
the field with a great race taking place for second place between
Haseleu and Rubeck. Rubeck would eventually hold off Haseleu
to take second place, but nobody would have enough for Neville
who easily captured the checkered flag. Rounding out the top
five would be Andrew Morrissey and Lensing.
When asked about moving up to the super late models Neville
commented, Absolutely, this feels great. These guys here
are good.
Youll see me back here at MIS more than once this
season, said the young Illinois driver who made a very
good first impression on the fans.
Based on his finishes in the two races, Haseleu picked up
a $500 bonus for the overall winner which made his night worth
$2000. We had a lot of work to do on the car between races
so it was good we had time to get things done, said Haseleu.
Haseleu set fast time with a lap of 17.598.

Schmidt Tops Area Sportsman Field
For the second time in three races, Bret Schmidt won the 20
lap feature for the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman.
RC Van Ransull and Dennis Schwark paced the field to the green
flag with Van Ransull holding down a slight lead after the first
lap before TJ Goldade moved out to the lead before spinning and
bringing out the caution.
Appearing like he was shot out of a cannon, Jay Kalbus took
the lead on the restart and clearly looked like a man on a mission.
However, Schmidt was not about to be outdone as he was up to
challenge Kalbus on lap 6 with the two running side by side for
the next four lap before Schmidt was able to clear Kalbus for
the lead.
Schmidt would be able to hold off Kalbus by two car lengths
to pick up the win. Rounding out the top five were Steve Dickson,
Scott Lawver, and Goldade.
Jay Kalbus was there the whole time, said Schmidt
in a post race interview.
Schmidt set fast time with a lap of 20.440.

Ace Threads the Needle for Bandit Victory
Chester Ace won his fourth race of the 2008 season in dramatic
fashion when he captured the 25 lap feature for the Roto Rooter
Bandits.
Brandon Skolaski and Jody Schmidt comprised the front row
of the nine car field with Schmidt getting out front from the
start. On lap 4 the caution flag came out for a spin setting
up what would amount to one of the best Bandit races in MIS history.
Following the restart a four car pack of Schmidt, Ace, Kyle
Padfield, and Stephen Scheel broke away from the field. Racing
two by two, a blanket could have covered the group as they jostled
for position. Eventually Cory Skolaski would join the group
to make it a five car battle.
Something had to give. On lap 16 Ace somehow found the room
he needed and split the difference between Padfield and Schmidt
to get to the lead. They gave me just enough room to get
through and I was able to get it done, said Ace.
Ace would be able to hold off the field though admitted it
wasnt easy. These extra laps are tough on the car
but we hung on. Padfield would hold on to finish second
followed by Skolaski, Schmidt, and Scheel.
Aces qualifying lap of 15.616 was fast time.

McNamara Proves that Hard Work Pays Off
Max McNamara and Alex Arelano are a couple of high school
students from suburban Chicago who have been battling it out
all season long in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends. However,
they both have had set backs recently with Arelano experiencing
mechanical problems and McNamara wrecking his car at Rockford.
Tonight they both returned to MIS and once again battled it
out for the checkered flag.
Thirteen cars took the green flag for the 25 lap feature with
Tom Palma establishing himself as the early leader before relinquishing
that spot to Aaron Moyer on the second lap. Moyer looked very
strong and quickly checked away from the field and appeared like
he was heading for his first-ever Legends feature win at MIS.
Unfortunately for Moyer, lap 13 proved to be unlucky as he
spun while leading thus moving McNamara and Arelano up to the
first and second positions.
McNamara would continue his advantage over the field with
newcomer Jeremie Johnson getting by Arelano for second on lap
19. Johnson would make a run at McNamara but wouldnt have
enough for him and would come up just short. Following McNamara
and Johnson at the stripe would be Arelano, Dave Townsend, and
Tim Narr.
A very tired McNamara said, It was a tough week. A
lot of work went into getting ready to race again following our
wreck.
McNamara set fast time and established a new track record
with a lap of 13.975.

Robinson Back in Victory Lane for Hobby Stocks

for the Hobby Stocks.
Robinson took the lead right from the start and held off Kyle
Stark to pick up the win.
Stark set fast time with a lap of 14.754.

Two in a Row for Caylie Duncanson
Twelve year old Caylie Duncanson held off Kyle Vergata to
win the 15 lap feature for the Bandoleros.
Duncanson took the lead coming out of turn four on the first
lap and quickly built up some distance between herself and the
field. It looked to be an easy win for the multi-talented Duncanson,
but nobody told that to Vergata.
By lap 10 Vergata had started to close the gap and looked
like he might have enough to challenge the leader. But despite
his best efforts, he wouldnt have what it took to get to
victory lane tonight.
This is fun. I enjoy racing here, said Duncanson
from Smart Motors Victory Lane.
Duncanson was the fast qualifier with a circuit of 14.853.
