Kickapoo Speedway receives long term support

Michael and Kim Daugherty, with Daugherty Speedway, Inc, have come to a long term contract agreement with the Vermilion County Fair Board. Daugherty signed a short term contract for 2016 to finish racing at the former Vermilion County Speedway. This was followed up with a long term contract after he proved he can promote races successfully to the Fair Board. "We are extremely happy that we have come to an agreement with the fair board. We really love the facility and the people in and around the community. We have some exciting ideas to build on now that we can plan the next 5 years out." When asked what classes will be running, he was excited about the opportunity to cross promote two race tracks. "We will keep our foundation of UMP Modifieds, Pro Late Models, Street Stocks, Pure Street, and Sport Compact. We are excited to announce and bring in the Midwest Stock Car Crate Series (MSCCS) that will start in 2018.

This will join the Midwest in what IMCA, the east coast and southern regions are already doing. We have talked with many owners of series and have listened to all of their pros and cons and what they would do differently. We will promote special shows like the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour at both locations; and will also try to get a couple of back to back Sprint car shows. The leverage of getting a traveling series becomes easier when you can offer two shows within 50 miles of each other." When Kim was asked her thoughts, her response was: "We are both very excited to now have a long term contract. This will allow us to purchase additional equipment needed so that we aren't hauling items back and forth. It will save us time and energy. Promoting back to back is very challenging and exhausting.

We have brainstormed about ways to make this easier on our staff, while not allowing the fans to see any difference. We are excited about our partnership with the Fair Board in bringing this community on their feet for racing once again." When asked about the rumors that he sold Daugherty Speedway in Boswell to DNR, he just laughed. His response was: "As long as there are jealous people, there will be rumors. I'm still waiting on Tony Stewart to start helping since one rumor was he owned it." Daugherty has ran three races in 2016 at Kickapoo. He has focused on doing what he can, with minimal equipment. He was focused on the fans, and the experience of getting used to a wide spread operation. "At Daugherty, everything is very close. Here at Kickapoo, everything is very spread out. We wanted to prove to the fans that we could operate efficiently as one of the major complaints was getting out late on Sundays. We ran our second race and was done by 8:15pm, and the third races was ran in 2:17, and we were done by 7:17pm."

Daugherty states that he has plenty of work to do on the facility and the track before winter. He wants to run one more show, but he says he must first bring in some clay and get turn 3 and turn 1 back to where they need to be for great racing. He will keep everyone informed via facebook and the website. Daugherty plans on doing a completely new website in lieu of his current 1 page "quick info page". In the meantime, if anyone needs to get a hold of him for sponsorship or questions, they can do it 1 of three ways: Email: Phone: 765-807-5002 (leave message) or Facebook:
